Message to the Alumni

For seven years, I had the privilege of being part of and shaping the study program at the Goetheanum. It was an honor working with my colleagues on designing, shaping, and reviewing teaching methodologies suitable to meet the emergent consciousness of the students. This unique interconnection between faculty and the students unfolds in a complex web of individual and collective strivings. Every lecturer brings his/her characteristic approach, while each student brings his/her particular set of experiences, cultural perspective, and personal quest into the program.

Building relationships is a key part of the learning process. On the first day of the course, students and lecturers sat in a circle, introduced themselves in the round, and met one another for the first time. Behind each expectant face lives a world of experience, thoughts, attributes, longings and intentions - as yet unknown to the others - and partly, even to themselves.

During the course of nine months, the circle grows ever more colourful. The study program becomes an agent of change for the participants, who in turn are the agents of change for the program. Each year turns into a unique tapestry of colourfully interwoven lives and destinies, collectively woven and taken up as part of the long road to individual authenticity.

In gratitude that we could meet and walk part of our ways together, I greet you from South Africa - where my life has taken me. In order to expand my own faculties of leadership and management, I have started an Executive MBA at the Graduate School of Business in Cape Town. Back in the potential and pain of this beautiful country and its people, I continue to develop the global network of the World Social Initiative Forum (WSIF) with a wonderful team of competent young people. WSIF is currently developing a lot of new projects - including a hands-on training course on essential social skills and action research about the social impulse of Rudolf Steiner.

The valuable experience of my time at the Goetheanum - and particularly within the Study Program - gives substance and meaning to my current experience. With heartfelt thanks, I wish you all resilience and purposefulness on your continuing journeys.
