Teachings from the bees

We asked: What is the significance of relationships between people, thoughts, and contexts? Read Andrew’s answer here.

I have been keeping bees for a number of years and I started in the same way that most other beekeepers do. This involved opening the hive often and trying to control the bees’ behavior. This carried on for a few years and the bees kept telling me that they were unhappy. Bees are able to let you know this in a very strong way! The turning point came when I went to a workshop run by a biodynamic beekeeper.

If Ignorance is Bliss, is it Folly to be Wise?

I was talking to someone recently who said, “ignorance is bliss,” as a reason not to follow the news. While this viewpoint may be tempting, it set me thinking. How do we understand current events when they seem to get more and more bizarre? How do we live and work in a constructive way during these times? More fundamentally, how can I discern where truth lies?

I have made several attempts (such as the two above) to write an article on how anthroposophical thoughts can change a viewpoint of the world and each one failed to get even close to describing how I really feel. How do you convey the reality of something so life changing and fundamental? It is like trying to sum up your feelings for a beloved partner in 400 words or less. I find that over the years, the thoughts from Anthropsophy sit under and behind everything I do, sometimes more openly, sometimes more hidden. They widen and deepen my view on the world and they give me a framework into which to fit other teachers’ works.

I am immensely grateful for this gift.
