Tribute to a fine human being – Herbert Hagens Senior, July 1, 1922 – November 26, 2021

A number of you had the opportunity to study at the Goetheanum and thereby to enter into the special world of Rudolf Steiner`s contributions to modern humanity. You had this possibility through the late father of your long-time colleague and teacher, Herbert Hagens (Junior).

Herbert will continue his work with the Mystery Dramas for those who are enrolled in this year`s Anthroposophical Study Program. Our Herbert`s deep understanding of these dramas goes back to the time after he finished his school years. His father, also named Herbert Hagens, gave him the opportunity to come to the Goetheanum and to work as a stagehand for the dramas. His family goes back to his own parents, Emmy and Henry Hagens, whose ashes are in the Memorial Grove on the Goetheanum Campus. They were personally connected with the work of Rudolf Steiner. Herbert Hagens (Senior) established a music recording studio and then added video production as well. His successful business enabled him to support Anthroposophical initiatives for many years, including the Anthroposophical Studies Program. He generously contributed to our scholarship fund. It is understandable if one helps friends or family financially, it is deeply altruistic to support students whom one does not know. He had confidence in the sincerity of young people who wished to connect to the Goetheanum. Our hearts are grateful for his gifts extending back to the beginning of our Program.
